Subject:Jack Thompson is a smelly pile of used douchebags
Time:12:04 am.
I think I read articles on this guy for an hour today. It's hard to help since he's been attacking some of my favorite webcomics recently. I'd really like him to go away, because all he does is annoy the shit out of me. He recently one upped himself. Mr. Thompson made a proposal that if a game company were to make a videogame he thought up in some insane asylum, he would donate 10,000 dollars to the President of Take Two's (makers of Grand Theft Auto) favorite charity. The basis for the game is this. You play as an enraged father of a child who was killed by someone acting out a videogame in real life. You would go to EBGames stores and arcades and ultimately E3 and murder everyone. It didn't take long for people to create this game. In fact, 5 or 6 versions of Jack Thompson's murder simulator were created. He responded by saying he never meant it because it was a work of satire akin to "A modest proposal" by Jonathan Swift. Now, I don't know if you're familiar with this famous proposal (I'm not that informed myself, but I know a little). Johnathan Swift was commenting on a food shortage in Ireland and suggested that they eat their babies. I wish I knew more about it, because I don't get it, it just seems mean (and funny) to me. This is what I don't understand; how does it relate to Mr. Thompsons proposal in the least?

Basically, what I think happened was this. Jack Thompson wanted a major company to make his game and lose a bunch of money. This way he could pat himself on the back and give the money to charity all while giving raspberries to videogame players (Like I give a shit if a game doesn't sell). So, he said he was just kidding. He never intended to give that money to charity. That's pretty fucked up. So, someone stepped up and did it for him. Penny Arcade donated 10,000 to the charity he said he would donate to as soon as they found out about his backpedaling.

Penny Arcade is a class act and understands that lying to a charitable organization is a fucked up thing to do. They did what he only said he would do to try and make himself look better. It's pretty fucking funny IMHO that gamers showed him up at his own game. This pissed him off. He is now trying to get Gabe and Tycho arrested for "Criminal Harrasment".

Jack is starting to show the kind of moral depravity he has, but the right people need to see it. Somehow CNN still thinks he is an expert on the field of content in videogames, but he doesn't know square one. He is a small sad man trying to take advantage of people to put himself in the limelight. He parades around calling himself one of god's foot soldiers, but I have not seen any Christian behavior since I first heard his name. It's fine to have Family Values and to not want certain things around your children, I believe in some of the same things he does! The fact of the matter is this though, you cannot remove the rights of other people to make yourself more comfortable. This is a democracy, and you do not get to decide what we listen to, view, or play. To think you have this power is to think you are God, and I'm pretty sure God is NOT down with that.

Videogames are not just for kids anymore, In fact, they never were. Pornographic and Violent videogames have been around since the 70's. The graphics are better now, but the content was the same.

You cannot take away my right to, in a videogame, Chop someone's head off, fuck a hooker and then shoot her in the head and steal her money, engage in interactive sex scenes, and anything else that would make you uncomfortable. You and you alone also have the right to teach your kids what they should and shouldn't do, and you have to trust them to do it. Embuing your kids with morals is a part of being a parent, and if you can't accept that fact, you are not fit to have children.

Censorship is not the way to protect your children. You have to make them smart enough to take care of themselves. Something new will always come along and one up what has been around before.

I like playing videogames, that is not a lie. I am also however an adult, and I have the right to play videogames with violence, sex and drugs. I don't need someone telling me what I can and cannot play. Stop trying to control the media, and stop telling me who I should be.

Fucktard.

(I started writing this planning to write 2 or 3 paragraphs about the penny arcade thing, but I got kind of out of hand. Sorry for the tangent, but Jack Thompson really Grinds my Gears (hehe Family Guy(Killing hookers isn't funny, besides, most of them are already dead on the inside :) )))

I'm done now.

Jack Thompson is still a fucktard waste of space though :).

PS Meeting 2005: PSP 2.00 Details
Net browsing, AVC video, wallpapers and more, oh my!
by Nix

July 21, 2005 - Just announced in Japan today, Sony's first major update to the PlayStation Portable operating system is packing some major features -- there are still a gaggle of requests that we have for other upgrades, but this 2.00 package goes a long way towards fixing the quirks and complaints users might have had about the system. The 2.00 update has some significant new features, and with a due date in Japan of July 27th in Japan (with a NA release likely soon after or the same day), these cool features might be yours in the very near future.

Sony Computer Entertainment has released a list of the features to be included in PSP v2.00, and we have translated and pulled out details on these in the list below. Once it's available, you can get the 2.00 update either by downloading it from a hotspot to your PSP, by uploading it from your PC via USB after grabbing the file from SCE's service, or by updating with a PSP game with 2.00 included. Here's what's in the package:

* NETWORK - Internet Browser - The biggie of the bunch, a new browser function has been added to the PSP so that you can connect to a website any time you are in the area of a compatible / accessible WiFi hotspot. The browser supports standard 4.01 HTML, but will not support Flash (although it is listed what sounds to be a sniffer function for Flash to show when it is requested but not available ... might it be part of the PSP brower someday?)
* NETWORK - New Network Menu - This is where the web browser will be housed. The icon for it will be a globe, and it'll cycle in with the music note, film frame, and game logos.
* VIDEO - Jump Feature in UMD Video/Music - Yes, it doesn't sound nearly as interesting as our original translation of "Performance Jump." It's a new skipping feature in UMDs, perhaps direct chapter access control or something to that effect.
* VIDEO - A-B Repeat Mode - A handy feature for watching clips you like, this feature allows UMD Video, Music or Memory Stick videos to repeat your favorite scenes
* VIDEO - 4x3 Video Mode of Memory Stick Video - We're not sure what this accomplishes, as videos were already 4x3. The only way for videos to be bigger and wider was to cheat the system and stretch would-be 4x3 pixels in odd ways with alternate apps.
* VIDEO - Audio Adjustment Function of Memory Stick Video - Seems to be muting and gain controls for when your homemade videos are not the way you want.
* VIDEO - MP4 (AVC) Playback - This is the good stuff. Homemade PSP videos have so far been hobbled by limited codec implementation and an adherence to a regulated Memory Stick standard. Instead, the PSP is finally allowed to branch out and play more complex, high-quality video in the advanced h.264 codec. Exact implementation of the AVC codec may still depend on certain variables, but get your compressors ready.
* MUSIC - ATRAC3plus Support on PRO Duo - Correcting a silly technical gaff in the Memory Stick format, music fans can now put ATRAC3plus files on their PSPs. (SonicStage v3.2 software is required.)
* MP4 AAC & WAVE Support - The PSP can now play MP4 audio (MP4's AAC format) as well as Linear PCM WAVE files.
* PHOTO - Wallpaper Feature - We're guessing this is the much-requested feature for taking your favorite pictures and smacking them in the background of the PSP menu. There's no mention of a randomizer or anything else that would make this feature even more cool, but at last, something other than that swishy swirl on this month's color.
* PHOTO - Picture Sending - You can now trade photos with other PSP owners over an ad-hoc (local) wireless connection
* PHOTO - New Formats - The PSP can now read TIFF, GIF (we're not sure about animated GIF yet) and BMP files.
* SETTING - Korean Language - A new language option on the menu. That'll be nice for them
* SETTING - New Character Set - No details available on this -- hopefully, this is a quick-select for punctuation and other hard-to-type characters.
* SETTING - Theme Setting - No details.
* SETTING - Internet Browser Restriction Setting - A set of options for configuring the access your PSP has to the net, presumably your cookie and personal security handling.
* SETTING - WPA Support - If WEP isn't secure enough for your home, you can now access PSP with WPA-PSK (TKIP.)
* SETTING - Web Support on Keypad - It's unfortunately not as cool as it sounds (we were hoping for USB keyboard support to be added, as there are a couple of USB manufacturers with mini-keyboards on deck.) The old dial-a-letter keyboard will be the input for the web browser.

Version 2.00 is a free update for PSP, and has a lot of features to help put the PSP in even better shape as a multimedia machine. The only issue with the update, of course, is that the security updates in previous updates will carry over to the newest version -- that means that the homebrew and EMU applications that are running wild in the PSP underground will be locked out in the newest edition. Hackers are notorious for finding a way where there is a will, and the will of the PSP gamer to get all of these features in their system without losing some of the cool extra apps will certainly be a driving force. However, cracking the security of the PSP in version 2.00 won't be as easy as it was with the swiss cheese early PSP versions, so it is unknown when or if any of that access will be returned. Since homebrew/hacker applications have also allowed access to pirated PSP games (copies of many games have unfortunately already been ripped off and posted up), that's just how Sony wants it, and they will certainly keep seeking to lock down their system.

Whether or not there will be a winner in that game of cloak and dagger, these features are handy and much-needed upgrades on the system for general users, so look for news on availability in North America of the 2.00 update soon.

Sony finally grew a brain to contend with the rampant hacking of their system by adding firmware features that are more than just security lockdowns. I'm very excited, mainly because I already updated my firmware and cannot play with the hacks available now. Plus, when I first got my psp, I was trying for 2 days to get video even CLOSE to the quality of a UMD to no avail. Themes and wallpaper support is also very fun. I can't wait to play with these new features.

BTW, Killer 7 is one of the most disturbed games I've ever played. Very insane anime stylee. Like wicked city meets akira meets la blue girl. Except without the tentacle rape. That's why I have D2, and I smile quietly to myself. :)

edit: This game rocks. For example.

Gamer Murdered Over Virtual Property
In Shanghai, one MMORPG player crosses every line.
by David Adams

June 8, 2005 - In an extreme example of gamers taking a hobby (obsession?) too far, Shanghai gamer Qui Chengwei stabbed Zhu Caoyuan in the chest, killing the fellow gamer, according to the BBC News.

The motive for the murder? Zhu sold a virtual sword in the online game Legend of Mir 3 -- a sword Qui Chengwei had loaned him.

Qui had apparently tried to take the virtual property dispute to the police, but China lacks laws covering virtual property like an online sword. Zhu had offered to pay Qui the money he'd earned from the sword, but Qui refused.

Qui Chengwei now faces a suspended death sentence, meaning he could spend his life in jail, but that he may also be released on "good behavior" in 15 years.

Victim Zhu Caoyuan was 26 years old. His parents are currently seeking appeal for an immediate death sentence.

I have an unhealthy addiction. They are called rhythym games. There aren't too many too choose from here, but in Japan, konami has an entire lineup of rhythym games and peripherals that not only are fun on their own, but in some cases LINK UP TO FORM VOLTRON MUSIC GAME! I'm dead serious. In japan, they can connect Guitar freaks, Keyboardmania, and drumania. You are a freakin band.. I WANT THAT. WHY NOT ME!??

But seriously, first item on my agenda is to get me some new konami style Rythym games. I think I want Pop'n Music first. It's kind of silly, but it looks fun and RIDICULOUSLY challenging. I can show you movies that would frighten you to the point of evacuation. In your pants. The way this one is set up is this. You have a large controller, bigger than the keyboard sitting in front of you. On said controller are 9 buttons. Your job is to hit the buttons in time with the marks falling from the top of the screen. I'm sure it's easy to pick up, but definitely not to master.

Thank god konami is finally starting to wake up. Early next year, they are bringing over beatmania IIDX. I cannot WAIT for this game. I love music games, because i never feel overwhelmed by a challenge, and I never feel discouraged to keep playing. The concept of these games are so simple, the only way you can really mess up is if you mess up. There is virtually no room for computer error. Unfortunately, this sometimes makes them compensate by making horribly elaborate songs for you to play. The sense of accomplishment when you beat these hard songs is incredible though.

I want me some guitar hero too.

3) The last film I watched: Star Wars Episode 1 (Re-edited version (much more tolerable than GL's cut))

4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:

The Big Lebowski

Army of Darkness

Tombstone (I'm your huckleberry!(Val kilmer's best movie))

Wet Hot American Summer

SCENT OF A MULE

Kitty Malone sat on a mule
Was riding in style
When suddenly, like the sound of a buzzard's breaking
Kity felt laser beams being fired at her head
She said, "I hate laser beams
And you never done see me askin'
For a UFO
In Tomahawk County"

Well she kicked the mule
And it walked the path
And the aliens fired from behind
Till she stopped the mule
And she kicked the rump
And the big old mule took a big old dump

Scent of a mule, you better watch out where you go
Take your laser beams away
Scent of a mule, you better watch out where you go
You better stop that laser game
Or you'll smell my mule

She felt the fire against her neck
And it saddened her to feel it burn
When suddenly, like the sound of a breeding Holstein
Kitty said, "Stop, we ain't lookin' for fightin'
In Tomahawk County."

A little guy from the UFO
Came on out and said his name was Joe
She said, "Come on over for some lemonade
Just follow me now with the whole brigade"

Chorus

They walked into her cabin shack
They had never seen a southern home
And they liked it, better than their UFO
They liked it, they really liked it
They said, "Here's a place of elegance
Here we shower ourselves in lightness"

Chorus

I don't think that number is right.

I got a hair cut. Several hairs actually. Looks pretty beach ready, so I guess I should think up how to get down to the beach one of these days.

Not a lot going on right now, still looking for a job, living in the garage (much more habitibal than my previous living quarters), etc etc.

Reason 3 kicks so much ass I can't even begin to describe it hear. All I need to do know is get back into a writing groove and shit will explode. Physically. With fire and stuff.

Gorillaz new album rocks pretty hard. Some of the hiphop is lame, but on the whole it sounds pretty rad. They are still lightyears ahead of 99% of the artists around today in terms of creativity. I have a horrible urge to go on a music shopping binge. May go out to Tunes when my Income tax check comes in next week. I need music so I can make music. My brain is pretty devoid of new stuff right now.

Any musical suggestions are welcome. I have some things in mind, but I'm always open to new stuff.

I want to go to the bar.....

Whoa. This is really wierd, but at the same time, very nostalgic. Final Fantasy 6 IMO is the BEST Final Fantasy game ever made. Someone with WAY too much time on their hands made the ending and the last few battles into a flash animation. Here's the change though, all the characters have been replaced with video game consoles. It sounds wierd, but it actually works. Especially if you know your videogame history and the characters from FF6. Every system is appropriate for the role they are placed in, and it's kind of creepy. It did however make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, childhood memories came rushing back.

If you want to see it, here it is:

http://www.hcn.zaq.ne.jp/cabic508/rsf/frame1.html

A little warning though, it's about 45 minutes long. Final Fantasy 6 rocks.
